NLC Bash Gov Okpebholo for Police Attack on Union
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has warned the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, to desist from attacking the Union’s office in Edo state.
The NLC issued the warning in a statement released by its Head of Public Affairs, Benson Upah, on Thursday.
This comes after operatives of the Edo State Police Command stormed the Union’s office in, Benin, Edo State.
Neusroom understand that the Chairperson of the Edo State Council of the NLC was absent when the attack happened as he was attending the annual NLC Harmattan School in Abuja at the time.

The NLC believe Governor Monday Okpebholo gave the order for what it describes as an “illegal break-in and entry” by the Police.

While calling for an apology, the Union insists that the Police are yet to relate its reason for the break-in.
“Acts of intimidation of trade unions or their leaders are unacceptable as they constitute not only a violation of trade union and human rights but also a threat to our hard-won democracy.
“As a brand-new Governor, he should have his priorities. We would hate to think that authorising the harassment of trade union leaders is one of them.
“Leave the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress alone! It is too soon to start a fight with us,” the NLC statement read.
