NIHOTOUR’s Fagade Hosts UN Tourism Candidate Harry Theoharis in Abuja, backs Mission 100 for Africa’s growth

The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Africa’s tourism sector by hosting Mr. Harry Theoharis, candidate for Secretary-General of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), during his working visit to Nigeria.

Led by its Director-General, Aare (Dr) Abisoye Fagade, FIMC, NIHOTOUR engaged Theoharis in strategic discussions centered on Mission 100 — his ambitious plan to unlock the full potential of Africa’s tourism, hospitality, and travel industries. The dialogue also focused on aligning Nigeria’s priorities with broader continental objectives.

Welcoming the delegation, Aare Fagade highlighted NIHOTOUR’s ongoing transformation efforts, emphasizing training, regulation, and empowerment within the hospitality and tourism sectors. He stressed that global best practices, innovation, and youth engagement are central to NIHOTOUR’s strategy for sustainable growth.

“Africa’s time is now, and through Mission 100, we have a unique opportunity to harness our vast assets for inclusive development,” Fagade said. “NIHOTOUR is prepared to lead initiatives that will position Nigeria and Africa as global tourism leaders.”

In his response, Mr. Theoharis commended NIHOTOUR’s initiatives and underscored Nigeria’s critical role in the Mission 100 vision, which aims to strengthen tourism governance, develop human capital, drive digital innovation, and foster strategic partnerships across the continent.

The meeting marks a significant milestone in NIHOTOUR’s ongoing evolution into a continental leader in hospitality and tourism development, reaffirming its position under Aare Fagade’s visionary leadership.
