Nigeria’s crude oil production dropped to 1.46 Million bpd in February – OPEC
Nigeria’s daily crude oil production dropped to 1.46 million barrels per day (bpd) in February 2025, marking a 4.8% decline from the 1.53 million bpd recorded in January, according to the latest report from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The oil cartel, in its monthly market report released on Wednesday, stated that the production data was based on direct communication with Nigerian authorities. However, secondary sources, which include data from energy intelligence platforms, estimated Nigeria’s February output at 1.56 million bpd—a 2.2% increase from the previous month’s 1.52 million bpd.
Despite the dip, Nigeria retained its position as Africa’s top oil producer, ahead of Algeria, which recorded an output of 912,000 bpd in February.
The report also provided insight into OPEC-12’s overall crude oil production, which stood at 41.01 million bpd in February, reflecting an increase of 363,000 bpd month-on-month. While crude oil production rose in Nigeria, Iraq, and Iran, it declined in Gabon and Congo.
Similarly, non-OPEC+ crude oil production averaged 14.15 million bpd in February, representing a decline of 2.08 million bpd month-on-month. Kazakhstan recorded the highest production increase, while Mexico, Malaysia, and Russia saw declines.
Meanwhile, OPEC+ announced on March 3 that it would increase oil output in April, a decision likely to impact global supply and pricing in the coming months.
