Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis Implement 90-Day Visa-Free Travel Agreement

Citizens of Nigeria and Saint Kitts and Nevis can now travel between both countries visa-free for up to 90 days, following the implementation of a new bilateral agreement.

The policy officially took effect on August 4, according to multiple reports. Akinsola Akinlabi spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), confirmed the development to TheCable on Sunday night.

The agreement is the outcome of recent diplomatic engagements between President Bola Tinubu and Saint Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Terrance Drew. The two leaders first held discussions earlier this year in Abuja and later reconnected during Tinubu’s state visit to Saint Lucia in June.

While addressing a special joint session of the Saint Lucian Senate and House of Assembly during that visit, Tinubu signalled Nigeria’s willingness to negotiate a visa waiver scheme for holders of diplomatic and official passports from members of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

The OECS includes Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Tinubu’s visit to Saint Lucia marked the formal beginning of diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the island nation. During the trip, he also promised to deploy Nigerian technical experts to support capacity-building efforts across OECS countries as part of wider Africa–Caribbean cooperation.

Nigeria has now followed through on that pledge, with the visa-free deal between Saint Kitts and Nevis representing the first concrete outcome of President Tinubu’s broader proposal for regional mobility within the OECS.
