Nigeria’s Long Jump Trio Advances to 2024 Olympics Final in Paris
Nigeria’s women’s long jump team have made the country proud as Ese Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Prestina Oluchi Ochonogor secured spots in the final of the long jump event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Brume, who clinched bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, booked her place in the final with a standout leap of 6.76 meters as she eyes a historic second medal to her medal cabinet.
Usoro followed closely with a commendable 6.68 meters, while Ochonogor rounded out the trio with a jump of 6.65 meters, ensuring all three Nigerian athletes advanced to the top 12. This marks the first time, three Nigerian women advance to the finals.

Ese Brume, is aiming to make history by becoming the first Nigerian track and field athlete to win two individual Olympic medals.
Her impressive track record includes medals from almost all major competitions she’s entered, and she’s hopeful for another successful performance in Paris.

Debutants Usoro and Ochonogor are also poised to make their mark in the final, set to take place at the iconic Stade de France in Paris.

The nation has a proud history in the women’s long jump, having won medals of every colour at the Olympics.
Chioma Ajunwa earned gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games in the USA, followed by Blessing Okagbare’s silver at Beijing 2008 in China.
Brume’s bronze in Tokyo 2020 completed the set, and she now aims to add another medal to Nigeria’s Olympic legacy in this event.
