Nigeria drops money laundering case against Binance’s Tigran Gambaryan
The Nigerian government has withdrawn its high-profile money laundering case against Tigran Gambaryan, the U.S. citizen and top executive at Binance, to enable him to seek medical treatment abroad.
This decision was disclosed by the government’s legal representative in Abuja on Wednesday.
Gambaryan, who serves as the head of financial crime compliance at Binance, has been in detention in Nigeria since February and was accused of laundering over $35 million.

Both Gambaryan and the cryptocurrency exchange have strongly refuted the allegations.
While the charges against Gambaryan have been dropped to allow his medical leave, the Nigerian government will continue pursuing the money laundering case against the cryptocurrency exchange.
The cryptocurrency exchange also faces separate tax evasion charges, which remain active but it has consistently denied any wrongdoing on both fronts.
Nigeria’s scrutiny of cryptocurrency activities within its borders continues to grow as regulators seek to clamp down on financial crimes associated with digital assets.
This is a developing story…
