Netanyahu rejects UK, Canada, Australia Recognition of Palestinian State

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sharply criticised the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia for their recent decision to formally recognise a Palestinian state, describing the move as a dangerous concession to terrorism.

In a statement on Sunday, Netanyahu accused the three countries of “rewarding terror with an enormous prize” in the wake of the October 7 Hamas-led attack on Israel.

“I have a clear message to those leaders who are recognising a Palestinian state after the horrendous October 7 massacre: you are rewarding terror with an enormous prize,” Netanyahu said.

The prime minister vowed that Israel would never accept the creation of a Palestinian state west of the Jordan River, insisting it would pose a grave threat to Israel’s security. “It’s not going to happen. There will be no Palestinian state to the west of the Jordan River,” he declared.

Speaking during his trip to the United States, Netanyahu said he had resisted “tremendous pressure, both domestic and from abroad” to support Palestinian statehood. He also noted that his government had doubled the number of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank — referred to in Israel as Judea and Samaria — and planned to continue their expansion.

Israel’s official response to the recognition move, he added, would be issued after his return from Washington.

Netanyahu reaffirmed his government’s position, saying Israel would continue to oppose “any attempt to force upon us a terror state in the heart of our land.”
