Ndume Calls on Tinubu to Dismiss Underperforming Ministers
Ali Ndume, the lawmaker representing Borno South senatorial district, has urged President Bola Tinubu to consider sacking additional ministers who he believes are underperforming. In a statement on Saturday, October 27, in Abuja, Ndume expressed concerns that some ministers are still “missing in action,” despite the recent cabinet restructuring.

Praising Tinubu’s recent reshuffle, particularly the establishment of the new Ministry of Regional Development to oversee various regional commissions, Ndume stated, “The President’s cabinet reshuffle last week was a masterstroke.” He emphasized the importance of continued reform, noting that further action is necessary to enhance the effectiveness of the cabinet.

Ndume also encouraged Tinubu to advance his de-dollarisation policy, suggesting that Nigeria should pursue membership in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). He argued that this shift would not only benefit Nigerian businesses—especially those importing goods from China—but would also alleviate pressure on the naira by reducing dependence on the U.S. dollar.

Additionally, the senator called for a national economic conference led by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, along with the National Economic Adviser and prominent Nigerian economists, to develop homegrown solutions for the country’s economic challenges.

In contrast, former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Charles Udeogaranya, criticized Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle. He described the changes as misguided and unlikely to produce the desired economic results. Udeogaranya expressed concern that the current economic team lacks effective brainstorming, urging the President to revamp the team with new leadership that possesses strong skills.
