NDLEA Kano Command Arrests Over 1,300 Suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State said it arrested 1,345 suspects and confiscated 8,430.239 kilograms of illicit substances.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, the State Commander, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, disclosed that the arrested suspects included 1,301 males and 44 females.

“We seized substances ranging from cannabis, cocaine, and heroin to methamphetamine, codeine, and over five million tablets of tramadol,” he revealed.

The command secured 128 convictions for drug-related offences and implemented targeted initiatives, including Operation Hana Maye (Operation Stop Drug Abuse).

“This operation focused on combating drug abuse and creating a safer environment. We dismantled over 20 drug joints in areas like Filin Idi, Dan Agundi, Sani Abacha Youth Center, and Sani Abacha Stadium,” Idris-Ahmad added.

In addition to enforcement, the agency conducted 1,114 drug integrity tests for council election candidates and 202 visa clearance tests to prevent drug trafficking.

“Through our rehabilitation programme, 101 drug addicts were counselled and reintegrated into society,” Idris-Ahmad stated. He also highlighted 207 anti-drug campaigns conducted to raise awareness across the state.

The commander credited the NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, for his unwavering support, and commended Kano’s government, traditional leaders, and security agencies for their collaboration.

“Our success is the result of teamwork, intelligence-driven operations, and community partnerships,” he said. “We remain committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring a safer, healthier society for all.”

Idris-Ahmad praised the professionalism of NDLEA officers, assuring residents of intensified efforts in the fight against drug abuse.
