NDLEA Arrests 65-Year-Old Woman in Lagos with Bottles of Codeine
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 65-year-old grandmother, Ramata Bola Adeyemo, over alleged drug trafficking activities. The arrest, which took place on December 6 at Odunfa Street in Lagos Island Local Government Area, saw the recovery of 20.6 liters of codeine-based syrup from the suspect.
In a statement released by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, it was revealed that the arrest was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes across the country. Adeyemo, a resident of Lagos, was taken into custody for trafficking the controlled substance.
In a related operation, NDLEA operatives also apprehended another suspect, Egwu Phillip Inya, who was allegedly attempting to collect a large shipment of synthetic cannabis known as “Loud.” On December 2, Inya, who claimed to be a building engineer, was arrested at the Okeyson motor park in Enugu while attempting to pick up 7.40 kilograms of the illegal drug, which had been concealed inside three pressure machines.
The consignment, which had arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on November 29, had initially been slated for pickup at the airport. However, the importer changed the point of collection to Enugu, prompting NDLEA operatives to conduct a follow-up operation. The agency’s strategic command in Lagos had been closely monitoring the shipment, which eventually led to Inya’s arrest when he showed up to collect the drugs.

The vehicle’s occupants attempted to evade capture by making a detour but abandoned the vehicle after realizing they were being trailed by NDLEA agents.
