NCC pledges quality service, transparent tariffs in 2026

The NCC said Nigerians will see better voice quality and more consistent data performance, fewer avoidable service disruptions, quicker restoration during outages and prompt refunds for failed recharges.

Other expectations outlined by the NCC include simpler and more transparent tariffs, a safer and more resilient internet ecosystem, and continued network expansion, particularly in underserved and unserved communities.

The commission said its regulatory focus in 2026 will be driven by outcomes that directly affect consumers, delivered through clear rules, active monitoring and consistent enforcement. It added that protecting subscribers and improving their experience across all networks will remain central to its oversight of the telecoms sector.

On quality of service (QoS) and network resilience, the NCC said it will deepen QoS monitoring, strengthen major incident reporting and drive measures to improve network availability, especially in high-traffic areas and persistent black spots.

The regulator noted that the sharp rise in mobile data consumption in recent years has placed increased pressure on network infrastructure, making service quality and reliability more critical than ever. It said operators will be required to match network expansion with growing demand, stressing that sustained investment in infrastructure is necessary to prevent congestion, dropped calls and inconsistent data speeds.

The NCC also said it will continue to promote fair competition and consumer protection to ensure that service improvements translate into real benefits for subscribers. According to the commission, clearer tariffs, faster resolution of complaints and stricter enforcement of regulatory obligations will help build trust in the telecoms sector and support inclusive digital growth across the country.
