National Grid Collapses for the Third Time in a Week
In a troubling development for Nigeria’s energy sector, the national grid has collapsed for the third time in just one week. The latest incident occurred early Saturday morning, October 19, plunging numerous states into complete darkness.

According to data obtained from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), the grid recorded zero megawatts (MW) as of 9:20 AM today, highlighting the severity of the situation. This latest failure follows two previous collapses earlier in the week, further exacerbating the ongoing challenges faced by the nation’s power infrastructure.

As businesses struggle to operate and households contend with unreliable electricity, the impact of these outages is being felt across the country. The situation is made worse by the rising costs and scarcity of fuel, leaving many citizens grappling with the harsh realities of life without consistent power.
