NAFDAC Rejects Lungitox Claims, Warns Against Misleading Health Products
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has categorically debunked allegations that it approved a so-called “lung-cleansing herbal tea” targeted at smokers. The product, Lungitox (Smokers Pride), was rejected during its registration process, according to a statement issued by the agency’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, on Saturday.
The Agency’s clarification comes in response to a misleading video circulating on social media, claiming that the agency endorsed the herbal tea, which allegedly makes smoking “healthy” when used alongside the product. The agency dismissed these assertions as false and unfounded.
“NAFDAC wishes to categorically state that this claim is false and completely unfounded. The product in question—Lung Detox Tea or Lungitox (Smokers Pride)—is NOT registered by NAFDAC,” the statement read.

The agency revealed that the product’s manufacturer had applied for registration but was denied due to the dangerous and scientifically unsupported claim that smoking could become “healthy” through the use of the tea.
NAFDAC reiterated its unwavering commitment to public health and its mandate to approve only safe, effective, and scientifically substantiated products. “We condemn any attempt to mislead or endanger the public with false claims,” Adeyeye stated.
