N971bn 2025 Budget Presented to Enugu House of Assembly
Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has presented a 2025 budget proposal of ₦971 billion to the State House of Assembly.
The budget tagged, “Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity,” was presented on Tuesday.
Neusroom gathered that there is an 86.4% increase from the 2024 budget of ₦521.5 billion.
Capital expenditure accounts for 86% of the budget (₦837.9 billion), with recurrent expenditure, accounting for 14% (₦133.1 billion).
Mbah believed the budget would help tackle poverty, boost the economy of the state and enable private investment.
In his words, allocating ₦320.6 billion, 33.2% of the total budget to education, underscores his administration’s resolve towards boosting that sector.
“Education is both our ‘sword’ and ‘shield’ in this battle to achieve economic growth in our state and banish poverty among our people. This allocation maintains the ambitious direction we set in 2024,” Mbah said.
The Governor also boasted that the state’s zeal to reduce its reliance on federal allocations has led its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to rise from ₦37.4 billion in 2023 to ₦144.7 billion by September 2024.
This is a 286.2% growth and one the Governor hoped would exceed N200bn by the end of the year.
He explained that capital expenditure will be funded through a ₦559 billion transfer from the Consolidated Revenue Fund and ₦278.9 billion in capital receipts from external aid, grants, and loans.
The Speaker of the State Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, while speaking on the proposal, assured that the budget will be passed without delays.
“We are inspired by your vision and achievements. Rest assured, the House will expedite consideration and approval of this budget to sustain the momentum of development,” Ugwu said.
