MC Oluomo stabbed, hospitalised as thugs clash during APC rally
National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) leader, Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo was, today, stabbed during the campaign rally of the APC.
The party flagged off its official campaign at the Skypower ground, Police College area of Ikeja, on Tuesday.
The rally was supposed to signify the kick-off of governorship candidate Babajide’s Sanwo-Olu’s campaign.
It was, however, marred by violence between two warring parties believed to be factions of NURTW. Oluomo was stabbed during the melee and was taken to the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
Two other persons reportedly lost their lives during the clash, while several others, including reporters, sustained varying degrees of injury.
Sanwo-Olu, who was reportedly whisked away from the venue with Governor Ambode, has described the rally as successful. He thanked his ‘supporters’ for a large turnout.
Many fear the elections which is just weeks away could witness more of such clashes between political party loyalists. Such fears could affect turnout of electorates at polling units.
President Muhammadu Buhari has repeatedly assured Nigerians of a peaceful, free and fair election in the coming weeks.
