Man sets heavily pregnant girlfriend ablaze because he didn’t want to be a father

Eren Toben had told his pregnant girlfriend, Maria Peiner, he was taking her to buy baby clothes in January 2015.

But Toben and his friend, who rode with them, led his eight-months-pregnant girlfriend into a wood on the outskirts of Berlin.

There, Toben, 20, hit her over the head with a piece of wood, stabbed her and drenched her with petrol before setting her alight, according to the Independent.

Toben’s fingerprints were found on the handle of the knife left near the charred remains of her body.

A German court has sentenced Toben and his friend, Daniel Pueller, to 14 years in prison.

“For him the crime was a solution. He wanted a free, happy life which he had control over,” Judge Regina Alex said..
