Man returns from wedding to find house on fire

Residents of 16, Ogbe Close in Iwaya, a suburb of Yaba area of Lagos don’t know where they’ll sleep tonight.
Their house and belongings were taken by a fire incident on Saturday morning.
“There was no electricity early in the day,” a woman told NewsroomNG. “Minutes after power was restored around 11 am, I started hearing people shouting ‘fire! fire!'”
Our correpondent was later told the house went up in flames after an electric spark occurred in one of the rooms.

We gathered the occupant of the room was not in when the said spark occurred. Those who rushed to the scene couldn’t break the door down on time as the fire spread. Smoke from the building also barred helpers from saving much.
“Some of the residents lost everything,” the woman quoted earlier said. “Clothes, TV, furniture… all burnt.”

One of the residents was at a wedding ceremony probably smiling to the tune of “The Voice That Breathe O’er Eden”, and singing along, when he received a phone call informing him the house was on fire. He rushed home to the sight of charred clothings, razed ceilings, and some other forms of destruction.
Another woman was inside her church when she heard her house was on fire. She hurried home to find her belongings burnt to uselessness. But the hymn book and Bible she left in her room were spared.
“We knew the Bibles would not burn because God will always protect his word,” our correspondent overheard a man saying.
None of the affected residents spoke with us. They seem too devastated.
Some young men threatened to smash the phone of a bystander who tried taking pictures..
