Man beats mother to death two days after completing 30-year-murder sentence

Steven Pratt pleaded guilty, Wednesday, for killing his mother two days after he completed a 30-year prison sentence for killing a neighbour.
Pratt, aged 17, was found guilty of murder in 1986 for shooting and killing his next-door neighbour Michael Anderson two years earlier.
He was released from prison in October 2014 and his family welcomed him with a party at their Alantic City, N.J., home.
It was supposed to be a new beginning, but history repeated itself.
About two days after his release, 64-year-old Gwendolyn Pratt, Steven’s mother, was killed. She died from massive blunt-force head injuries.
Steven pleaded guilty to manslaughter for killing his mother. He reportedly told a judge through tears that he was guilty and didn’t want a trial.
“I have failed,” Pratt told the judge, his voice barely audible, the Press of Atlantic City reported. “I don’t want a trial. I’m guilty.”
He is expected to get a 25-year-prison sentence, 85% of which he must serve to be eligible for parole..
