Man Bags 40yrs Jail Term For Murdering Saleh, Founder, Gokada Nigeria

Killer of Saleh, Gokada Nigeria Founder, Sentenced

The man responsible for killing the founder of Gokada Nigeria, Fahim Saleh, has been sentenced to 40yrs to life in prison.

The sentence was handed down on Tuesday by a Manhattan Criminal Court.

Up until the time he dismembered his former Boss, Tyrese Haspil served as his personal assistant.

Haspil also stole about $400,000 from his Boss after murdering him in 2020.

Murder, grand larceny and others were some of the charges levelled against Haspil.

The deceased, Saleh, oversaw a ride-hailing motorcycle startup, Gokada, in Nigeria, among other businesses.

Haspil resigned after Saleh discovered he was stealing money from his businesses.

Haspil was given leave to repay the stolen sums over two years to avoid been prosecuted for the crime.

The convicted continuing stealing and then murdered Saleh in a bid to cover his tracks.

The murder occured when Saleh made his way into the elevator of his Manhattan apartment building on July 14, 2020 and was followed and tased by Haspil.

Haspil then stabbed his former Boss to death as the elevator opened into his apartment.

The convict returned with an electric saw to dismemeber the body the next day but left the apartment to get a charger after the saw’s battery ran down.

In that time interval, Saleh’s cousin got to the apartment, discovered the body and alerted the Police.

Haspil was picked up some days later by the Police.

In a statement by the Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, at the sentencing, he stressed that the conviction will bring “closure” to the family.

“Today, Tyrese Haspil is facing accountability for brutally murdering and decapitating Fahim Saleh, a kind, generous, and empathetic person who positively impacted the world.

“Even after the defendant stole from him to fund a lavish lifestyle, Mr. Saleh still gave him a second chance.

“While today’s sentence won’t bring Mr. Saleh back, I hope it provides his family a sense of closure as they continue to mourn his painful loss,” Bragg said.
