Kasambara is to remain in prison until he is sentenced.

Former Malawian Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Raphael Kasambara has been convicted of attempted murder alongside two others by the country’s High Court.

The three were accused of plotting the murder of former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo in 2013.

The Lilongwe court found the former minister and the two, Pika Manondo and Macdonald Kumwembe, guilty of conspiracy to commit murder.

The attempted murder of the former Budget Director occurred on the night of 13 August 2013 at the entrance of his residence in the capital.

He was shot three times at close range as he awaited the gate to be opened.

He however survived the ordeal and was flown to South Africa for treatment.
