LASG floods market with N12,000 LAKE Rice
LAKE Rice has again been launched into the market by the Lagos State government.
The government said the availability of the rice was necessary because of the high prices of other rice products in the market.
The state commissioner for agriculture, Mr Oluwatoyin Suarau said on Tuesday that the government would ensure all year round availability of LAKE Rice at affordable prices.
“It is in a bid to ensure availability of LAKE Rice product in every part of Lagos that the government sought the participation of major rice distributors, shopping malls and supermarkets in the distribution of the product,” Suarau said.
He further said that the government would continue to ensure that the quality of the rice is topnotch it is released to the market for consumption.
“The ultimate goal of the government is to stop importation of rice and ensure that only locally-produced rice is consumed by residents,” he said.
“The rice which is packaged in 50 kilogrammes, 25kg and 10kg bags is still being offered for sale to residents at N12,000, N6,000 and N2,500 respectively.”
The commissioner added that measures were being put in place to avoid adulteration of the rice product.
