A car crash that occurred in Surulere area of Lagos early Thursday morning resulted in the death of a pregnant woman, NAN reports.

The woman, identified as Mrs Helen Akhimien, was said to be making preparations to travel to the United States on the day of the incident.

Reports say Mrs Akhimien was to leave for the U.S. where her children were schooling later on Thursday before the accident.

According to LASEMA, the accident occurred around 2am at Stadium Bus-Stop on Funsho Williams Avenue, Surulere. The agency accused the driver of reckless driving.

“The immediate cause of the incident was attributed to reckless driving and speeding by the Camry car driver, who didn’t notice the slow moving truck driving inward Stadium Bus stop,” the General Manager of LASEMA, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu said in a report.

“He lost control and crashed into the truck loaded with granite,” he said.

A Police source at Area C Command revealed to newsmen on Friday, that the driver of the Toyota Camry with registration number KUJ 412 AA Abuja, was Mrs Akhimien’s husband.

Mr Akhimien reportedly sustained serious injuries as the car collided with the truck with registration number EKY 668 XL Lagos. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The LASEMA General Manager advised motorists to drive within the approved speed limit and observe road traffic signs to prevent casualties on the roads.
