Lagos Govt Unveils Monthly Landmark Tours to Promote Culture and Boost Tourism

The Lagos State Government is set to launch monthly landmark tours aimed at showcasing the city’s rich cultural heritage while fostering growth in the transportation and tourism sectors.

Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, made the announcement during an exciting event that brought together Nigerians in the diaspora and lovers of Lagos. The event included a lively city tour, offering a fresh perspective on the metropolis’ beauty and vibrant energy.

The initiative, named “Lagos Tourism is Rising”, will feature both land and water tours each month, highlighting key locations across the state. Aregbe emphasized that these tours were designed not only to attract tourists but also to deepen the connection between Lagos and the diaspora community.

“This initiative is about promoting our cultural heritage and strengthening the bond between Lagos and the global Nigerian community. It offers a chance for everyone to admire scenic views, learn, and appreciate our rich history,” Aregbe said in a statement on Sunday.

The tours aim to celebrate Lagos as a prime destination for business, leisure, and culture. Aregbe highlighted the important role the diaspora plays in the city’s economic and cultural landscape, making the tours a vital way of honoring their contributions.

The first tour, a fun-filled affair, took guests on a thrilling journey through the bustling landmarks of Ikoyi, Lekki, and Lagos Island. A diverse mix of activities, including music, dance, and engaging discussions, made the tour an unforgettable experience. Travelers enjoyed a unique perspective from a double-decker bus, motorbike convoy, and Lagos Ride vehicles as they visited landmarks like the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History and the renowned Nike Art Gallery. The day culminated in a delightful dinner, further strengthening ties among the guests.

The event was graced by key figures including Khadijat Omotayo, the Personal Assistant to the President on Constituency Affairs, and Oluwatoyin Atekoja, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos Ministry of Tourism. The tour also attracted several prominent personalities such as Nike Davies-Okundaye, Femi Adebayo, DJ Six7even, and former Miss Universe Nigeria, among others.
