The Lagos State Government has announced a major traffic disruption set to affect the Eko Bridge starting Monday, September 16. The closure, necessary for emergency repairs coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Works, will span eight weeks, with the bridge expected to reopen in the second week of November.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, shared the details of the upcoming repairs in a statement on Friday. The repair work will be executed in four phases, which means the bridge will be intermittently closed either fully or partially throughout the duration of the project.

To help ease the impact on commuters, Osiyemi has released a detailed travel advisory, Motorists traveling to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue can use the service lane at Alaka to reach Costain, from where they can access Eko Bridge and continue their journey.

Alternatively, drivers can head directly to Costain and then proceed to Eko Bridge, which will lead them to Apongbon for their destination on the Island.

For those coming from Apongbon, they can connect to Eko Bridge, then to Costain, and eventually reach Funsho Williams Avenue.

Additionally, motorists can travel via Costain towards Alaka or Funsho Williams Avenue. Another option is to use Apapa Road from Costain, connecting through Oyingbo and Adekunle, and then accessing the Third Mainland Bridge to reach their desired destinations.

For those heading to Surulere, the recommended route is via Costain to Breweries, then Abebe Village, and onto Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.

Osiyemi also assured that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be actively deployed to manage traffic flow and minimize disruptions during the repair period. The goal is to ensure a smoother travel experience for all Lagosians despite the necessary roadwork. Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and follow the designated alternative routes to avoid potential delays and inconvenience during this period of extensive infrastructure repair.
