Lagos: Man, 80, burnt to death after boiling ring set house ablaze

The Lagos State government says it’s another reason people should switch off all electrical appliances when they’re not in use.

The state emergency management agency (LASEMA) said they discovered a boiling ring someone forgot to switch off and unplug led to the untimely and gruesome death of Godwin Oyia.

LASEMA retrieved the man's body after the fire was extinguished at about 2pm on Tuesday.

The 80-year-old man was reportedly trapped inside the last room on the topmost floor of the building located at 5, Aborishade Close, Lawanson, Surulere.

“The whole of the top floor of the building was completely burnt down,” LASEMA said in a statement on Tuesday.

“We got the distress call at about 10:40 am. A dead body was recovered by the Agency Emergency Response Team and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force.
