Lagos: Here’s why there’s been no eletricity supply since Sunday
Electricity supply may have been restored to most parts of Lagos but “what difference does it make?”, a resident asked NewsroomNG on Tuesday.
The state was left in darkness after a major system failure on Sunday, electricity service providers said.
The “system failure” affected customers of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), and those of Ikeja Electric.
EKEDC spokesperson Godwin Idemudia, on Monday, said the outage was due to a system collapse from the national grid, affecting the entire country, as confirmed by the National Control Centre, Oshogbo. He said the system collapsed on Sunday evening at about 7:30 p.m.
He said repairs were being carried out to restore power. Idemudia said that the Ikeja West line which comprised of Agbara and Akoka, had gradually been restored as of 03:56 a.m. on Monday.
“We are therefore appealing to customers to bear with us as supply will be restored as soon as these repairs are concluded,” he said.
A Lagos resident told us power was restored Tuesday morning but said it made no difference.
“Before the system failure, the electricity supply was terrible so I didn’t really miss the light,” a Bariga resident said.
“I’ve been generating my own electricity from petrol. I do this everyday. I think the Nigerian power grid is perpetually failing and the government should fix this”.
