Labour Party Urges Supreme Court to Annul 2023 Imo Governorship Election Results

Appeal Court Affirms Hope Uzodinma's Election as Imo State Governor

The Labour Party has taken its fight for electoral justice to the Supreme Court, seeking the annulment of the November 2023 Imo governorship election results due to severe irregularities and over-voting discrepancies.

The party’s leadership argues that the election was marred by gross malpractices, including falsification of result sheets, harassment of party agents, and open vote buying.

According to Obiora Ifoh, National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, the total number of accredited voters was just over 500,000, yet the votes counted exceeded 700,000, resulting in an over-voting discrepancy of over 200,000.

This, he said, is a clear violation of Section 53 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), which mandates the cancellation of any election marred by over-voting.

The party is urging the Supreme Court to uphold the electoral laws and mandate a fresh governorship election in Imo State to restore public trust and ensure the integrity of the judicial system.

This move comes after the election tribunal and appeal court failed to apply the clear legal standard, despite alleged evidence of over-voting.
