Kano announce life imprisonment for kidnappers

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje on Tuesday signed the Anti-kidnapping, Abduction and Forced Labour bill into law after its due assessment by the state’s House of Assembly.

The bill‎, signed during the weekly State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, is said to be an appropriate measure in controlling the menace of kidnapping and abduction in some localities.

“I am happy to assent to this anti-kidnapping bill as it will help the security agencies in the fight against kidnappers and their sponsors in the state,” Ganduje said.

“The law has been in existence since colonial era, but it did not provide serious punishment for kidnappers, therefore, the house has to amend it to suit the current situation.”
