JUST IMAGINE: “Cultists” set estate ablaze with sleeping occupants to avenge killing of their member
By Usman Abubakar
At least 55 Nigerians have been rendered homeless by suspected cultists who reportedly set their homes ablaze while the occupants slept.
The incident which happened at about 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday was allegedly perpetrated by the loose cannons seeking revenge for one of their slain members.
Reports say the attackers were holding a wake-keep for the fallen member that same night.
They were reported to have launched a fiery attack on an estate located on KM 5, along Makurdi-Gboko road in Benue state.
The estate belongs to late politician and business tycoon, Alexander Gaadi, reports say.
“It’s an unfortunate thing,” Gaadi’s younger brother and manager of the property, Davien, told newsmen.
Occupants of the 20-flat estate must now seek alternative abodes after their home was razed by the suspected cultists.
Police PRO, Austin Ezeani, said the incident was a reprisal attack by a rival cult group.
The arsonists also torched three other houses in Terwase Agbadu, a village adjacent Gaadi’s estate.
The connection between the people now rendered homeless, and the cultist who was killed remains unclear.
