President Joe Biden endorses Kamala Harris as he ends 2024 re-election bid
President Joe Biden has decided to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race of the United States of America.
In a statement shared on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account, Biden declared, “It is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to step aside.”
This announcement comes just four months before the election, amidst questions about Joe Biden’s chances ahead of the elections, majorly altering the dynamics of the presidential race.
My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best… pic.twitter.com/x8DnvuImJV

Biden’s decision follows increased pressure from fellow Democrats after a contentious debate performance against Republican rival Donald Trump in late June. The President faced criticism for what was perceived as incoherent responses and a weak delivery, attributed by his team to a cold.
In his statement, Biden reflected on his tenure, saying it had been “the greatest honour of my life” to serve as President. He expressed his commitment to focusing on his remaining duties, stating, “While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down.”

Joe Biden also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his preferred candidate for the presidency, calling her an “extraordinary partner” throughout his term.
The President also thanked the American people for their trust and faith, emphasizing, “There is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”
The withdrawal marks a significant shift in the race, as the Democratic Party now pivots to rally support around Harris in the lead-up to the November election.
