Jigawa: Minimum wage not yet decided, aide suspended over unauthorised statement

The Jubilation of civil servants in Jigawa state has been rendered premature after the Jigawa govt clarified that the news circulating the media on approving the N70,000 was not authorised.

Alhaji Bashir Ado, Special Adviser to His Excellency, Governor Malam Umar Namadi on Salary and Pensions, and committee member for the minimum wage implementation in a statement on Saturday disclosed to newsmen shortly after casting his vote at Kanya Babba that the Jigawa govt has approved the N70,000 minimum wage. A statement that has now been frowned at by the govt.

“Governor Umar Namadi has already approved the N70,000 as minimum wage; what remains is for the committee to complete its assigned responsibility for the implementation”.

“I am sure civil servants will laugh and appreciate Governor Umar Namadi’s effort when they see the salary increase”, he disclosed.

Namadi after getting wind of the unsanctioned statement from his aide immediately suspended him.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Ibrahim, in Dutse, on Saturday.
