Italy vs England: How the battle will go down at Wembley tonight

Euro 2020 England

By whatever means, either by a well-deserved victory or a controversial penalty which has received criticisms from star managers, Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger, The Three Lions are in the finals of the UEFA Euro 2020 after a fierce battle against a hard-fighting Danish team on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

Is football truly coming home to England? Well, DStv subscribers will give us the answers as all eyes will be on SuperSports Euro2020 204 on Sunday, July 11, 2021, where the action between Italy and England will be happening.

This is England’s first-ever Euro final and their first appearance in the final of a major tournament since winning the World Cup in 1966, and Gareth Southgate’s men will throw everything into the game.

The Italian team has been rampant in the attack. In goal attempts, Italy averaged 18.0 per game, while England averaged 9.5.

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s clean sheet was under threat in the Semi-final match after conceding his first and only goal so far in the tournament. Will he be able to keep the sheet clean on Sunday against a rampant Italian side?

England and Italy have played 27 games, England have won 8, Italy won 11 and they have 8 draws. In their last five meetings, the two teams have had three draws and won one each.

There are reasons for England to be worried, the Italian team has never lost against England at a major tournament. The Azzurri also remains unbeaten in 30 games under Roberto Mancini, and they do not appear like they are ready to lose the most crucial game.

Southgate, who became the second England manager in history to lead the Three Lions to an international final, has also confirmed that the Italian team is exceptional.

“In terms of Italy, I think what Roberto [Mancini] has done and the way they’ve played the last couple of years, the record speaks for itself in terms of the wins, the small number of goals conceded. The style of play has been exceptional,” he said.
