Major IT outage disrupts operations of airlines, banks, other businesses worldwide
A major IT outage has caused significant disruptions across various industries globally, with airlines, banks, and broadcasters among the affected sectors.
CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm that services numerous industries, experienced a major outage on Friday morning, impacting regions worldwide. This disruption has led to halted news broadcasts and grounded flights.
The Federal Aviation Administration of the United States reported that three major U.S. airlines—American, United, and Delta—were forced to ground all flights due to technical difficulties.

In South Africa, Capitec Bank, one of the largest banks with 22 million customers, reported service disruptions. The bank attributed the issue to an international service provider, leaving dozens of customers frustrated as their transactions were declined.
The United Kingdom also faced significant impacts. Several train networks, including Thameslink and Great Northern, warned of potential short-notice cancellations and an inability to display real-time information to passengers on platforms. Additionally, Sky News, a prominent news channel, was unable to broadcast.
The London Stock Exchange was also affected, unable to publish news and other announcements on its website due to the outage. However, it assured that other services, including stock trading, continued to operate normally while technical teams worked to restore full functionality.
