Israel Warns Hezbollah of Violating Cease-fire Agreement
Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has warned that, if Hezbollah does not withdraw from southern Lebanon, it wud end its cease-fire agreement with Lebanon.
Katz said this during a visit to an army base in northern Israel.
“If Hezbollah does not withdraw beyond the Litani River, there will be no agreement.
“If this condition is not met, there will be no agreement, and Israel will be forced to act independently to ensure the safe return of the residents of the north to their homes,” he warned.
Multiple reports now suggest that Israel will continue occupying Lebanon long past the 60-day period stipulated in the cease-fire agreement.
Sources attribute this decision to Hezbollah not keeping to its part of the agreement by not fully withdrawing its forces behind the Litani River.
The Nov. 27 cease-fire agreement between bth nation had looked to end the over 14 months of conflict between the Israeli army and Hezbollah.
While Hezbollah is being blamed, authorities in Lebanon claim Israel has incurred 380 violations, leaving 32 dead and 39 injured.
4,063 victims have been declared dead, women, children, and health workers inclusive, while 16,664 others have been left injured since the conflict began on Oct. 8, 2023, the Lebanese Health Ministry claim.
As per the cease-fire terms, Israel is required to withdraw its forces south of the Blue Line in stages, while the Lebanese army is to deploy in southern Lebanon within 60 days.
