Illegal wine brewer endangers lives, produces adulterated drinks in Lagos
An illegal wine brewer has been nabbed by the police in the Mushin area of Lagos.
55-year-old Benjamin Ojukwu had been selling adulterated wines to unsuspecting customers at Ojuwoye market.
Police busted his place of business on March 30. Several adulterated drinks were recovered from his illegal wine factory.
Ojukwu said he had learnt the art of mixing and producing wines and hot drinks while he was in China.
“I was in China to learn how to mix and produce wines and hot drinks and when I got back to Nigeria in 2015, I started my own business in Nnewi, Anambra state,” he said.

Ojukwu, however, said that his arrest was because he started producing other brands of alcohol different from his brand.
“My factory got burnt, so I moved to Lagos in 2015 and started producing different brands,” he said.
“These ones do not fetch me more money as when I had my factory because then I could produce up to 400 bottles per day,” he added.
Lagos police commissioner Edgal Imohimi said during the suspects’s parade on Tuesday that various brands of wines and hot drinks, as well as empty wine bottles, were recovered.
Imohimi said the suspect would be charged to court after thorough investigation.
Wine lovers are advised to be extremely cautious about the quality of drinks they consume.
