I am willing to run alongside Peter Obi, – Kwankwaso

Political heavyweight and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, in the 2023 elections, Rabiu Kwankwaso purported the possibility of being Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2027 presidential elections if certain conditions are met.

Kwankwaso who during the 2023 elections stated that he can never deputise Obi because his political profile built over the years and his wealth of experience having served in various capacities in the country had helped in bringing NNPP to limelight within a short time and anything short of his presidency under the party would mean the collapse of NNPP.

In the last election, merger talks failed to materialise because from the discussion with Labour Party, the main issue was who becomes the president if the parties merge.

He said, “At the end of the day, some of our representatives thought that there should be criteria in terms of age, qualification, offices held, performance and so on”.

In a video circulating on X, formerly Twitter, he was heard addressing his audience in Hausa

He noted “I’m bigger than Peter Obi politically, I’m his elder brother, I’m a PhD holder, I performed better than him when I was a governor of my state. I’ve no problem with deputizing Peter Obi, but only if certain conditions are met“. We are willing to engage in discussions, provided that trust is established”.

While Kwankwaso’s political profile sums up his vast experience, the Obidient movement within a short time frame showed that they are a force to be reckoned with after causing a major upset in the FCT and Lagos.

A report from DAILY POST indicates that in the 2023 election, Peter Obi won the majority of votes in 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

The former Anambra governor came third with about 6,101,533 votes. Kwankwaso had the North as his stronghold as he won the election in 38 of the 44 local government areas in Kano State, garnering a total of 1,496,687 votes in the elections.

If the conditions are met, we may see an alliance between the LP leader, Obi and NNPP leader, Kwankwaso in the 2027 general election.
