How Nigerians are reacting to Runtown’s N10m support for those affected by COVID-19
Nigerian singer Douglas Jack Agu aka Runtown has become the first celebrities in the country to step up to announce financial support for Nigerians affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pandemic has led to the shutdown of businesses as well as other economic activities in Nigeria. Markets in Lagos and other parts of the country will also be shut on Thursday. The effect of this shutdown will no doubt place a heavy burden on many Nigerians, to alleviate this pain, the singer announced a N10 million giveaway for Nigerians on social media.
“Hope everyone is staying safe. Times are extremely tough and I am certain there are people with no money to stock up on survival essentials,” Runtown said in a Twitter post on Wednesday morning.
He then revealed what he plans to do:
“Will be giving out 10 million naira to this cause. Kindly drop your account details.”
While some fans believe he should channel the money into buying materials and donate to those truly in need who are not on social media, others are of the opinion that he has taken the right step.
Some netizens who have benefitted from Runtown’s largesse have taken to social media to appreciate him.
This is how some Twitter users reacted to Runtown’s giveaway:
I suggest Runtown shares part of the 10million to people offline too but I understand how stressful that can be. So if anyone online is a beneficiary, he or she should try to give a token to his or her neighbor who also need funds. We will survive this.
God bless us all🙏❤️— Tife🌚 (@Tife_fabunmi) March 25, 2020
Slept for a while and woke up to check what’s happening on the trend table and I saw Runtown leading the table, mind skipped a bit because I thought he had tested positive for Covid-19, not knowing he was helping people.
How I wish other big celebrities can follow suit.— Tosin🇳🇬🙎🏾♂️ (@Ohloowatoscene) March 25, 2020

Runtown is sharing money for people on Twitter so that people can afford food while isolating & get rid of the virus faster. Meanwhile our politicians are quiet. These are the clowns we voted for. They think they have any escape plan? You have nowhere to run to!!!
