Helicopter belonging to Nigerian Air Force crashes in Makurdi

An aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Air Force has reportedly crashed within the Air Force base in Makurdi.

The helicopter Augusta AW101, one of the aircraft from the Presidential fleet which was recently handed over to the force, reportedly crashed after it had already landed.

“What happened was that the helicopter had landed but suddenly moved up and then tumbled,” a source told PUNCH.

There were no casualties in the minor crash, as only the flight engineer was on board and he did not sustain serious injury.

The publication said an attempt to get the Air Force Public Relation Officer, Makurdi, Okon Bassey, to confirm the incident was rebuffed, as he feigned ignorance of the incident.

A man identified as Gambo, Bassey’s assistant, simply denied that no such incident happened at the base.

“It is a rumour; many people have been disturbing us concerning this thing, but I can confirm to you that nothing happened,” he reportedly said to the publication.
