HAPPENING NOW! Lagosians stranded on Ikorodu highway as police, BRT buses “go on Christmas break”

As we speak, police officers are nowhere in sight around the Mile 12 axis of Ikorodu expressway, stranded motorists and commuters are telling NewsroomNG.
A motorist told us around 1:15 p.m. local time:
We are stuck in traffic here. As you can see, no official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) is around.

There are also few BRT buses available. The state government is offering free BRT rides today but it seems less buses have been committed to the Christmas gesture than usual.
“That’s how they do any time they offer free BRT bus rides,” a commuter said.
Commercial bus drivers have taken advantage of the situation to drive up transport fare.
“Fare is up from 150/100 to 300, one conductor dared to go as high as 500,” another commuter told us.

Still many Lagosians said they had no choice but to struggle for the few buses available, the high price not withstanding.
“This is how they take advantage of us every festive season,” the commuter said.
The lingering fuel scarcity is obviously playing a role in the Christmas spoiler.
