Hackers Seize Kano Hisbah’s Facebook Page, Continue to Post Explicit Content
Suspected hackers who took control of the Facebook page of the Kano State Hisbah Board are still in control of the account, posting inappropriate and explicit content to its over 80,000 followers.
The breach, which occurred on Wednesday, has sparked widespread condemnation as the religious enforcement agency struggles to regain control of its social media presence.
The Hisbah Board, responsible for upholding Islamic laws for Muslims in Kano State, confirmed the hack and acknowledged the ongoing battle to reclaim its page.
Speaking to the press on Friday, the Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, expressed deep concern over the situation.
“We are aware that our Facebook page has been compromised, and inappropriate content is being shared. We urge everyone to assist in resolving this issue,” he stated.
While Daurawa assured the public that the board’s ICT department is actively working to recover the page, the hackers continue to post content that many have condemned as against Islamic teachings.
The Head of ICT at the Hisbah Board, Sani Zailani, provided further details on the ongoing efforts to address the hack. He revealed that this is not the first time the board’s page has been targeted, but this latest breach has proven particularly challenging.
“We’ve been in contact with Meta regarding this latest incident, and they have assured us that the issue will be resolved within 48 hours,” Zailani explained.
In the meantime, the Hisbah Board has called on the public to report the hacked page directly to Meta, particularly in English, to help prevent the further spread of inappropriate content.
“We appreciate the support and concern from the community, and we are doing everything possible to restore control of the page,” Zailani said, emphasizing the board’s commitment to resolving the issue as soon as possible.
Despite these efforts, the hackers remain in control of the page, continuing to post explicit content, as a review of the page showed that content was posted on Saturday, August 31.
