Two gunmen opened fire on a beach in the coastal resort of Sousse in Tunisia, Friday, killing at least seven people, the North African country’s Interior Ministry says.

Reports say the death toll could rise to 13 or more. Some say at least 19 were killed.

One of the gunmen has been killed while security agents chase the other, ministry spokesman Mohammed Ali Aroui said.

A British tourist close to the scene of the deadly attack has described his experiences to AP.

Gary Pine said he was on the beach and heard what “we thought was firecrackers going off” 100 yards away, followed by an explosion from the next hotel complex along.

“There was a mass exodus off the beach,” he told Sky News. He said his son said he had seen someone get shot on the beach.
