Gov. Mohammed to Tinubu: ‘Nigeria is Not Under Military Rule, Listen to the People

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged President Bola Tinubu to reassess the administration’s economic policies, citing their severe impact on Nigerians. He made this appeal during a Christmas Day celebration held in Bauchi.

Addressing an audience on Thursday, the governor urged the federal government to listen to the voice of the people and embrace policies that reflect their needs.

“We are calling on the presidency and the federal government to change their style,” Mohammed said. “Whenever a policy is not popular, they should listen to the people and not be arrogant, thinking that whatever they say must stand. This is not an oligarchy or military rule. True leadership requires listening to the people.”

The governor emphasized that disregarding public sentiment could lead to social unrest. “Anything they are doing that is contrary to the will of the people is a call for anarchy and intransigence, and it is unacceptable,” he warned.

Highlighting the economic strain faced by citizens, Mohammed called for collaborative efforts across party lines to ease the burden on Nigerians. “We must work together across parties and government tiers to provide relief to the people. It is not about pride or ego. If the situation was bad before, it should be acknowledged and changed. The presidency must listen to the people.”

Mohammed also appealed to Christians nationwide to pray for the country and its leadership during these challenging times.

“We join our Christian brothers to celebrate this day, the birthday of Jesus Christ. On behalf of the Bauchi State government, I thank the Christian community for their unwavering support over the years,” he said. “Even during my days in the ANPP, they stood by me. I appreciate this trust and goodwill.”

Acknowledging the country’s religious diversity, the governor stressed the importance of unity and mutual respect. “We come from the same source, even if we hold different beliefs. There is no compulsion in religion, and everyone is free to practice their faith.”

Concluding his address, Governor Mohammed urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their prayers. “Nigeria needs prayers. We are facing numerous challenges—anger, frustration, and hardship. These are issues that require divine intervention, and I call on all of us to pray for God’s guidance and mercy.”
