Godwin Tom’s iManage Africa Sets Up Women Fund To Encourage Inclusivity In Music Business
Nigeria’s foremost talent management company, iManage Africa has announced that it has set up a fund to encourage women’s participation in the 2021 edition of its Music Business Academy (MBA) for Africa.
MBA for Africa, curated by Godwin Tom, the CEO and Founder of iManage, in collaboration with Dr. Carlos Chirinos-Espin of the New York University’s Music Business Programme, is intended to further the efforts of building a more informed and empowered workforce for the African entertainment industry.
A report released in March 2021 by the University of Southern California’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, revealed that the numbers for women in music have mostly not improved, and have gotten worse in some ways.
In Africa, it is very rare to find women in the music production and promotion business. Presently, there is no known female producer or top record label executive in Nigeria who is a female.
Godwin Tom, through the MBA for Africa, is now leading an initiative to address the underlying problem of inclusivity of women in music business.
According to Tom, the women’s fund was inspired by the unexpected turnout of female participants at the last programme, and a need to create a more inclusive music industry.
He said the academy will provide a curriculum, internship opportunities, and modules for its students that will be heralded by a faculty consisting of key entertainment players and business executives from across the globe.
