Girl, 13, allegedly assaulted by guardian’s wife for mocking her barrenness
Bose Ogedengbe, a resident of Anthony village area, Lagos State, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting her ward, Favour, for insulting her over her barrenness.
Favour, a 13-year-old girl from Akoka Edo in Edo State, was reportedly handed over to Bose’s husband by her father a year ago. She was reportedly rescued by residents of Ajose Street, Mende, Maryland, where she ran to after Bose’s alleged assault.
One of the victim’s rescuers, Wasiu Ismail, is quoted as saying she was found wandering about in the street at 6:30pm on Friday.
“An elderly man found Favour on the street by 6;60pm and brought her to me with blood all over her body,” Wasiu said.
“When I questioned her, she said her guardian’s wife abused her everyday and it had become unbearable that why she ran away from the house”.
Favour, however, claimed she was beaten because she packed some clothes that had not yet properly dried in the house.
When Bose and her husband went looking for Favour in the street accompanied by policemen, the victim reportedly refused to follow them home.
Bose, on her part, said the girl mocked her about her barrenness and that she was a witch that’s why she had not conceived.
