Funso Doherty leaves ADC, joins PDP to ‘reclaim Lagos from APC’
Funso Doherty, a former governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos, has switched to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement on Monday, Doherty said he joined the PDP to unite efforts to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.
“After extensive consultations, it is with humility and great expectations for Lagos State’s future that I announce that I have joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” Doherty said in his statement shared on his social media platforms.

He explained that Lagos needs a strong alternative to the current governance, which he describes as exclusive and exploitative, having dominated since 1999. Despite significant spending, Lagos still lacks essential services such as public water supply, reliable and affordable power, quality public education and healthcare, mass housing, robust mass transit, and basic public law and order.
Doherty also raised concerns about the government’s handling of climate risks like flooding. He believes it’s time to oppose the current leadership, which he sees as entitled, insensitive, and self-serving, and aims to bring effective, inclusive, and accountable governance to Lagos.
He highlighted that the PDP, with its national presence and structure, offers the best platform to challenge the status quo in Lagos. Doherty emphasized that with the right candidates, a successful movement can be built.
Doherty acknowledged the challenges ahead, including internal party differences, but remains committed to working with others to find solutions. He called on supporters to join him in creating a new era of inclusive governance and widespread prosperity in Lagos State.
