I Told Fubara He Doesn’t Have the Capacity to Resolve Rivers’ Crisis – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says he told suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara that he lacks the leadership capacity to resolve the deepening political crisis in the state.
Wike disclosed this during a media chat on Monday while confirming that Fubara recently visited him in Abuja alongside two All Progressives Congress (APC) governors to seek reconciliation.
“Yes, he came with two governors, and unfortunately, the two of them are APC governors,” Wike said. “He said he wants peace, and I said I want peace too. But it’s not about saying you want peace; you must take the necessary steps to show it.”
Wike accused Fubara of ignoring early advice and allowing himself to be misled.
“This is a self-inflicted injury. When this thing started, I called him. Seyi Makinde, Ortom, Ikpeazu, Umahi — we all told him, ‘Don’t allow people to push you. You’re the governor, but don’t forget those who laboured day and night to get you there.’”
The former Rivers governor questioned the sincerity of Fubara’s peace overtures, citing ongoing protests and insults from the governor’s supporters.
“I told him, I don’t think you have the capacity to make peace. Your people are demonstrating every day, going on television to insult people,” he said.
“Have you met with the Assembly members? There are leaders you must engage with. It’s not just about talk — you must show by conduct and action that you want peace.”
