Nigeria Assures Citizens’ Safety in Libya Amid Harassment Reports
The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting citizens in Libya following a recent ruling by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against the Libyan Football Association. The ruling addressed allegations of mistreatment of the Nigerian football team during a Nations Cup Qualifying Match. The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also addressed the claims of Nigerians being mistreated in libya in the aftermath of the ruling by CAF.

In a statement released on Sunday, November 4, spokesperson Amb. Eche Abu-Obe emphasized that Nigerians residing in Libya are safe and continuing their daily activities without interference.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to convey that, as of the time of making this statement, Nigerians in Libya are going about their daily activities, free from any form of harassment by Libyan authorities,” the statement noted. This reassurance comes in light of the CAF’s decision, which criticized the Libyan Football Association for its treatment of Nigerian players and officials during their visit for the match.

The Ministry further emphasized that the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens around the globe is a top priority for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “We will continue to strive to safeguard it at all times,” the statement concluded, reinforcing the government’s dedication to its citizens abroad.
