‘Five’ killed as suspected herdsmen attack Benue border community
At least five people have been killed following an attack by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Udeku Maav-Ya, a border community in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack reportedly took place on Tuesday evening while residents were on their farms harvesting yams and bambara nuts.
Maav-Ya, which lies close to the Cameroon border, has experienced repeated attacks in the past, often involving the destruction of farmlands, houses and economic trees. Its location has continued to expose the community to frequent security threats.
After the assault, the attackers were said to have remained in the area, heightening fear among residents and disrupting daily activities.
Three of the victims were identified as Tyozua Gyuse, Gbaga Gyuse and Tersuur Ijighka, while the identities of two others had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, search efforts are ongoing for several residents who were declared missing following the attack.
