Fisherman gives away giant pearl he didn’t know was worth N34b

Giant Pearl - NewsroomNG
The enormous pearl is reportedly 30cm wide (1ft), 67cm long (2.2ft) and weighs 34kg (75lb).

Not every fish is meant for eating, because you never know in which one that life changing experience could come from – at least that’s what a poor Philippines fisherman just discovered.

He is said to have kept what might be the largest natural pearl ever found hidden in his home for more than 10 years.

If it is confirmed to have formed within a giant marine, it would likely be valued in excess of $100m (about N34b).

According to a report in the local Palawan News, a man from Puerto Princesa found it more than a decade ago while out fishing.

His boat’s anchor caught on the giant clam and he had to swim down to dislodge it.

He was not aware of its potential value, and kept it as a good luck charm.

He entrusted it to his aunt, who works in the local government as a tourism officer, and made a call on Facebook for people to see.
