Firing Osinbajo’s Aides Stirs Controversy In Aso Rock
Controversy continues to trail the presidency after the reported sack of at least 25 aides assigned to Nigeria’s vice president, Yemi Osinbajo by the Chief of Staff to President Buhari, Abba Kyari.
The action which has raised a lot of speculations about a fallout between the vice president and his principal was compounded after Abba Kyari took a bill meant for the president to London where Buhari was on a private visit for him to sign behind Osinbajo’s back.
Many people were of the opinion that these actions only point to a possibility that the vice president was being edged out of the government. The sack of his aides contributed in dragging the controversy further. But the presidency has responded to the speculations by insisting that all is well between them.
Not too long ago, the president had switched on protocols on Osinbajo by asking him to seek presidential approvals for agencies under his supervision, and reassigned the National Social Investment Programme (N-SIP) under the vice president to another ministry.
Critics are beginning to see the issue as not just unfair to Osinbajo but also a disrespect to the office of the vice president.
Buhari’s supporters on the hand believe that the whole fiasco is much ado about nothing.
